I have not been able to find one resource on the Internet explaining the process of cleaning or restoring an old saddle. There are small groups of information on the net related to restoring and cleaning a saddle, but not all in one place. So I want to change that. It will be impossible to provide every step in the cleaning process, not to mention the differences between saddle manufacturers. This overview is based on a Newell western style saddle.
Below are steps in the process I have taken when cleaning and restoring my saddles. Please remember this does not cover every aspect of cleaning or restoring a saddle. It is also important that you use your own judgment when cleaning or restoring a saddle.
